Vision Rehabilitation with Hybrid and Scleral Contact Lenses
Join us at this great venue on Sunday 5 May 2019, from 8.50am.  This one-day event will include a hands-on workshop on fitting scleral and hybrid lenses, as well as a tour of the Gelflex lab to see how RGP lenses are manufactured.

Damon graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Optometry in 1989.

Damon owns and manages the specialist contact lens and general optometry practice, Ezekiel Eyes, in Perth, Western Australia. Ezekiel Eyes specialises in vision rehabilitation through contact lenses.  Damon is also a contact lens consultant to various research organisations.

He regularly lectures and conducts workshops in contact lens practice throughout Australia, Asia and the United States.  In particular, Damon teaches the fitting of all types of rigid gas permeable contact lenses, including Orthokeratology and scleral lenses, soft bifocal, multi-focal and cosmetic contact lenses.

In 2014 Damon taught at the Vietnam National Institute of Ophthalmology in Hanoi, on behalf of the charity organisation Sight For All.

In February 2017 Damon visited the Eye Clinic of the Khmer Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  On behalf of Sight For All Charity Damon was teaching and fitting various types of rigid contact lenses to local eye care practitioners.

Damon treats patients with conditions such as Keratoconus, as well as those who are post graft and post refractive surgery. He also regularly treats children following operations for congenital cataracts.

In Washington DC September 2018 Damon was inaugurated as President of the International Society of Contact Lens Specialists. Also at this Congress, Damon and was awarded the prestigious Herschel Medal, given “in recognition of outstanding original contributions to contact lens design techniques and of fitting and application in clinical practice, in the education of students and in the advancement of the status of contact lens practice”.

In January 2019 Damon was a co-founding member of the Euro-Asian Scleral Lens Academy (EASLA).


Jessica Chi is the director of Eyetech Optometrists, an independent contact lens practice in Melbourne, which prescribes all forms of speciality contact lenses. She is the current Victorian, and a past National President of the Cornea and Contact Lens Society and an invited speaker at meetings throughout Australia and beyond.
She is a clinical supervisor at the University of Melbourne, a columnist for Mivision,a member of the Optometric Clinical Policy Committee Victoria (OCPCV) and a fellow of the Australian College of Optometry and the British Contact Lens Association.

At the completion of this lecture, participants should be able to:

  • Understand the cause of corneal ectasia
  • How to detect ectasia
  • Understand the surgical management and when to refer
Lecture 2:
  • Understand why it’s important for optometrist to be involved in managing corneal ectasia
  • What Optometrist can do to help these patients
  • Contact Lens and its role in managing cornea ectasia
Lecture 3:
  • Design principles and when to use Hybrid lenses
  • How to fit these lenses
  • Troubleshoot
Lecture 4
  • Design principles and when to use Scleral lenses
  • How to fit these lenses
  • Troubleshoot
